16U Titans Head Coach Sam Cawker
Titans President Adam Stevenson and Vice President Darryl Reid filled their one head coaching vacancy for the upcoming 2024-25 season when they hired 2022 IBL Rookie of the Year and 2023 IBL Champion Sam Cawker as the Head Coach of the 16U Titans.
Coach Cawker has been part of winning baseball organizations wherever he has played and coached. He’ll inject this mentality into the 16U Titans—the franchise’s middle group of student-athletes. Cawker’s coaching career includes one year as Assistant Coach of the Oshawa Legionnaires 22U squad that won the National Championship in 2019. In addition to coaching this group of Canadian champions in the baseball hotbed of Oshawa, Coach Cawker has served as Assistant Coach of the Ontario Prospects for one season and the Durham College Lords of the OCAA for two seasons.
Cawker played for the NAIA Lawrence Tech University Blue Devils in Southfield, Michigan after graduating from high school. He played for Durham College for three years to finish his college eligibility. The highlight of his three-year career with the OCAA Lords was winning a National Championship in 2019.
Cawker made a seamless transition from OCAA baseball to the best Senior Baseball loop in Ontario when he won IBL Rookie of the Year with the Welland Jackfish in 2022 and contributed to the team’s meteoric rise to a coveted Intercounty Baseball League Championship in 2023. The Welland Jackfish franchise is one of the newest teams in the IBL and their movement from expansion franchise to Intercounty champion last season is an inspirational story for all Titans to embrace and assimilate in their baseball DNA.
Coach Cawker is looking forward to joining the CPBL Titans and wants “to develop a physical improvement culture at the Titans Baseball Club. Personally, I found more enjoyment in the process of gaining physical tools than playing itself. I hope to pass this on to as many of the young athletes that I can, because the physical improvement, force development, strength and muscle coordination under load all go hand-in-hand with developing baseball skills and slowing the game down.”
With this background of winning championships and creating winning frames of mind in student-athletes, Coach Cawker’s influence will be felt immediately as he assumes the mantle of leadership with the Titans Baseball Club.
Welcome to the Titans, Coach Sam Cawker.
