3rd Annual Titans Shotgun Tournament is a Blast under Sunny Skies at National Pines GC

by Jim Stewart

124 golfers competed in the 3rd Annual Titans Golf Tournament under optimal October conditions at National Pines GC on Saturday.  Congratulations to the fearsome foursome of David Fox, Kam White, Scott Routledge, and Wylie Saye on their sensational Team Scramble round score of -15, which included eagles on the Par 5 first hole and the Par 5 fifth hole. Fox, White, and Routledge hoisted the Titans Trophy for the second year in a row and needed only 21 putts to navigate the challenging National Pines pin placements. The champs’ total putts were used as a dramatic shotgun tournament tiebreaker, conducted by Titans Director of Baseball Operations Lawrence Vera. The champions’ putt total of 21 was needed because the team of Yvan Eric Lavallee, David McEwan, Mario Bove, and Mike Harris also shot a sizzling -15, but finished in second place based on putts. Rounding out the on-course Prize winners were David McEwan and Sandy Thomson who won the Long Drive Contests, while Jesse Barker and Lynette Wendelgass captured the Closest to the Pin Prizes.

Dan Dunn won the Grand Prize from the Raffle Table—a Flight Simulator 737 Experience valued at $1500 and donated by Matt Ritter, courtesy of Air Canada. Dunn will be flying the 737 in the Simulator with Air Canada Pilot Matt Ritter. All nineteen raffle winners claimed their prize packages at the reception. The winner of the 50/50 Draw—which totaled $740-- was Madeleine Stewart.

The Titans Baseball Club would like to express its gratitude to the following companies and individuals for their generous prize donations and/or sponsorship of our 3rd Annual Tournament:  Johnson Controls (Chris Barbeau); KW Realty (Irene Skanderis); Inner Harmony Family Chiropractic (David Vecchio); York Metal Products (Dave Myers via Rob Gaby); Crowley Farms Norwood Limited (David Crowley); Court Surface Specialists (Spencer Garrett); Sabari Orthodontics (via Mckaea Dimpfel and Nick Dimpfel); Air Canada (Matt Ritter); the Optimist Club of Aurora (Rob Gaby and Stu Bundy), Priestly Demolition (Mike Norris); Summit Industrial Income REIT (Eddie McKiernan);  JMS Educational Services (Jim Stewart); and Mizuno (Centretown Sports-- Barrie).

The Titans Baseball Club also wishes to thank the Gregato, Lanoue, MacPherson, Keating, Carruthers, Gaby, Ritter, Darlison, McDonald, Dupuis-Cundy, Barbeau, Graham, Young-Williams, and Hoffmeyer families for their generous support and donations to our Raffle Table that made the Third Annual Tournament such a resounding success.  The Baseball Club’s fundraising efforts were made buoyant by your timely and creative contributions to the community.

Special thanks are also extended to Jeff Tait of Triple Bogey and John Bonis of Special Supporter Golf Series for their on-course hospitality tents that our golfers enjoyed during their round on a sunny October day.  Alas—no one fired a Hole-in-One at the Par 3, 165-yard Fourth Hole to claim the $5K Golf Vacation for Two to Casa De Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic, but the Triple Bogey Tent and National Pines hospitality staff at the Fifth Tee block provided solace and gustatory support after 124 failed efforts at a Hole-in-One.   Thank you to our volunteer team of Irene Skanderis, Madeleine Stewart, Ryeleigh Vera, Anna Bailey, Michelle Primeau, Ashley Phipps, Tayson Phipps, Matthew McDonald, and Josh Hill and Titans Coaches Lawrence Vera, Denis Bailey, Andrew Graham, and Josh Taylor for their work at the registration and prize table as well as on the course to monitor contests and provide troubleshooting as needed.

Finally, the Titans Baseball Club would like to thank the National Pines Golf Course for hosting our event, particularly Director of Golf Operations Stephanie Landers-Fenn,  Corporate Events Coordinator Chris Favreau, and Food and Beverage Manager Alishia Hamson for their professionalism and ongoing support of our fundraising tournament! We appreciated their on-course and in-clubhouse presence and courtesy from the start to the finish of the event. It was great to be back at National Pines. Thank you for your hospitality, great food, and idyllic setting both on the finely-manicured course and in The Loft for our dinner and awards reception.

We look forward to growing the tournament steadily in 2023 with more foursomes, more on-course hospitality tents, and more sponsorship partnerships with the Titans Baseball Club. Cheers to all participants!  Thanks for supporting our primary fundraising event of 2022.
