And Then There Were Twelve: Titans Colby Guy Commits to the D1 Rend Lake College Warriors

by Jim Stewart

18U Colby Guy became the 12th Titan from the Class of ’22 to commit to a US College.  The Titans first baseman signed his letter of intent to the NJCAA Division 1 Rend Lake Warriors on the weekend.  Guy will be joining infield teammate and catcher Giancarlo Bernardo at the southern Illinois community college in Fall 2022. He offered a combination of reasons for committing to the Warriors:  “I chose Rend Lake College because they have a great baseball program and the school has the business program I wanted to pursue in my academic career.”  The resident of Barrie, Ontario is “looking forward to living in Ina, Illinois because it’s a small town and has easy access to St. Louis and Louisville.” The Honor Roll graduate of Eastview Secondary School in Barrie noted that his “major area of study will be Business Management” and his “athletic goals are to improve my skill development as a baseball player at the College level. My academic goal is to maintain a high GPA.” The infielder maintained a 3.2 GPA at Eastview so his transition to a college business studies classroom should be seamless.

The Titans corner infielder thanked 18U Head Coach and Coordinator of College Placement Denis Bailey as well as the administration team for their help in securing his student-athlete opportunities in Illinois: “The Titans assisted me with their college school connections and were there to answer questions when needed.”  Coach Bailey, who answered most of those college placement questions and guided Guy in his decision-making, offered insights into his high-performance D1 first baseman:  “Colby is a middle of the batting order presence.  He has power to all fields and his power will continue to develop.”  The Titans 18U Head Coach also acknowledged the multisport prowess of his prodigious infielder:  “Colby is also remarkable in that he is a dual-sport athlete who plays Junior C hockey for the Stayner Siskins”— an athletic feat also carried off with aplomb by Coach Bailey during in his hey-day as a Junior hockey player and US College-bound baseball player a mere fifteen years ago.

The resident of Barrie, Ontario was also part of the 30-man squad that participated in the Titans 2021 College Trip to eight American states and nine colleges in October.  It was one of his high points with the CPBL expansion club:  “My highlights as a Titan have been being a part of the Fall College Trip and to play with a great group of guys.”  The D1 Viking’s four-part piece of advice to younger Titans was concise; he encouraged them to “work hard in school, strive to achieve goals, hit the ball hard, and have fun playing the game.”

Congratulations, Colby, on achieving your post-secondary goals by committing to a Division 1 baseball school and pursuing your studies in business.  Best wishes from the Titans Baseball Club on your journey as a student-athlete at Rend Lake College in Illinois in 2022!
