Justin Fenn Heading to the Houghton University Highlanders in New York
Justin Fenn has decided to continue his education and athletic career at Houghton College next season. The versatile veteran infielder/outfielder is the eighth Titans student-athlete from the Class of 2023 to have chosen to study at and play baseball for a US College. Director of Baseball Operations and 15U Head Coach Lawrence Vera couldn’t be happier for the original Titan: “We’re so happy that Justin will be attending Houghton University and playing baseball for the Highlanders. Justin joined us on our very first 16U team and I have had the pleasure of watching him grow as a baseball player and a great citizen in our community. Thank you, Justin, for your dedication to the Titans program. We’re looking forward to watching you take your next steps this coming season in the CPBL and at Houghton next Fall.”
The resident of Alliston, Ontario explained his reasons for attending Houghton University: “I chose the Houghton University Highlanders because I was able to visit the campus and the baseball team was very welcoming. I also felt that the campus life is what would suit me best. The sports facilities will allow me to continue training day in and day out.” In addition to its terrific campus and sports facilities, Fenn also spoke positively about living in beautiful Houghton, NY: “I would say one of my favourite aspects of living in Houghton, New York is that the campus is located on the Allegheny plateau. It is very scenic with extensive forest land.” In addition to admiring the scenery and patrolling the infield and outfield for the Highlanders, the 18U Titan will be majoring in Accounting at Houghton University.
As an Ontario Scholar as well as winner of the Unity Christian High School Honours Award and the prestigious UCHS Athletics Graduate Award, the veteran Titan succinctly delineated his athletic and academic goals at HU: “As a student-athlete, my academic goals will revolve around pursuing excellence in the classroom and developing my skills as a University athlete.”
Fenn acknowledged two Titans coaches who assisted him with his college baseball placement: “I would like to thank Coach Bailey and Coach Vera for the opportunity to visit and get a feel for various schools. The College Trip in October allowed me to experience different levels of post-secondary baseball.” Denis Bailey, the organizer of the Fall College Trip as well as the Titans 18U Head Coach and College Placement Officer, assessed his key utility player’s on-field qualities that will be assets for the NCAA D3 Houghton Highlanders: “Justin is a fantastic team guy. He does the little things that will allow him to be successful and really succeed at the next level. He provides a spark at the top of the lineup and is a catalyst for our offence.” The catalytic Titan reflected on his long career with the baseball club and expressed the satisfaction of “being a part of a new organization and helping it grow. Another highlight would be the relationships I have been able to develop with my teammates over the years.” In the interest of growing the program even more in the future, Fenn offered tips to the younger Titans student-athletes about finding the right post-secondary destination: “My advice to younger players in our program is to always be one step ahead when looking at course selections regarding what you plan to major in. Look into schools you think you might be interested in as early as you can.”
The Titans Baseball Club extends its congratulations to Justin Fenn. We are proud of his choice to attend Houghton University in Fall 2023. We wish Justin all the best on the diamond for the 18U Titans in your final season in the CPBL and thank him for his dedication to the Titans organization as it evolved over the last three formative years.
