SAT Prep Test for Titans’ Class of 2023 at True North Fieldhouse in November

by Titans Staff

Sylvan Learning will be conducting a SAT Prep Test and Diagnostics for the Titans’ Class of 2023 at True North Fieldhouse on Sunday, November 6, 2022.  The 3.5 hour test will be conducted on-field at the Fieldhouse from 9:30 AM-1:00 PM.  Titans Student-Athletes will be fed a catered hot breakfast at 9:00 AM after sign-in and registration. Chris Russell and his team from Sylvan Learning in Durham Region will invigilate the prep test.  Titans College Placement Officer and 18U Head Coach Denis Bailey stressed the importance of this preparatory process:  “Class of 2023 Titans are strongly encouraged to take the prep test in November at TNF, receive diagnostic feedback from Sylvan including a working score in Language and Math based on the test taken on November 6, and then write the actual SAT at an accredited educational institution in late-Fall or early-Winter.”

Recent changes in US College Admission requirements created the need for the pre-test, as explained by Titans Education Compliance Officer Jim Stewart:  “63% of US Colleges will require a SAT score from the Class of 2023 applicants. We need to prepare our US-bound players for a return to relatively normal admission requirements.  A further 27% of US Colleges will give preferred admission to candidates with a SAT score compared to a candidate who does not.  We don’t want our student-athletes to be in a deficit situation when they apply to US Colleges in 2023.”

Stewart explained the benefits of writing the pre-test:  “Writing a prep test through Sylvan Learning will be beneficial for all our graduating players.  They’ll receive scores for both SAT Language and SAT Math components from Sylvan within 96 hours of writing the pre-test. Most importantly, Sylvan Learning’s diagnostic report delineates language and math deficiencies, based on errors on the test. This is a great way to focus our players’ studies as they prepare for the actual writing of the SAT for US College admission.  Given the pandemic’s impact on high school learning over the last two years, this standardized practice test will  list gaps in student learning, especially core language and math concepts they have missed due to many factors including the fractured delivery of the Ontario curriculum since March 2020. ”

Cost of the Sylvan Learning SAT Prep session on November 6 will be $80, including a catered hot breakfast, a 3.5 hour standardized sitting of the SAT at TNF, and a full diagnostic report from Sylvan to guide our players as they prep for the actual writing of the SAT.
