Titans’ Catcher Ryan Barbeau commits to the Tompkins Cortland Community College
18U Catcher Ryan Barbeau committed to the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers this week. Barbeau was the fourth Titan from the Class of 2025 to commit to a US College.
Titans Director of College Placement and 17U Head Coach Denis Bailey offered insights into Barbeau’s prospective success with the D3 Panthers: “Ryan does a great job behind the plate. He calls a good game and receives the baseball very well. Offensively, he is gap-to-gap with a short compact swing. Ryan will have an opportunity to step in and compete for playing time from day one at Tompkins Cortland.”
Barbeau provided a detailed list of reasons he chose Tompkins Cortland and the NJCAA D3 Panthers: “I committed to Tompkins Cortland CC because, for me, it checked all of the boxes I was looking for in a school and baseball program: great location; chance to play, develop, and eventually transfer to a 4-year program; and on-campus housing & athletic facilities. TC3's Coach Williamson was also a huge factor in why I chose to commit to Tompkins Cortland. Coach is building something special at TC3 and I wanted to be part of it.”
The resident of Oshawa explained what he’s looking forward to the most about living in Dryden, New York: “I am looking forward to living on campus. Tompkins Cortland's campus is very nice and out of all the tours I have taken, TC3's dorms are the nicest I've seen. Dryden, NY is in a great location between Cortland, New York and Ithaca, New York. The campus is also only a five-hour drive from my home in Oshawa.”
Barbeau, an Honor Roll student at Ecole Secondaire Catholique Saint-Charles-Garnier in Whitby, will be studying Sports Business Management at TC3 and explained his athletic and academic goals with the Panthers: “As a student-athlete with the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers, my athletic goal is to develop my skills and improve my strength to compete at the highest level possible. I want to be a day one impact player, someone the coaches and my teammates can count on in any situation. Academically, my goal is to maintain a high GPA. I want to be prepared academically to continue my education at a four-year school after TC3 and keep progressing as both a student and an athlete.”
The veteran catcher explained how the Titans Baseball Club assisted him with his college baseball placement: “Since the day I arrived from Calgary, the Titans have been very helpful and supportive of my goal to play college baseball. Coach [Denis] Bailey and Coach Kirby [Smith] provided support in connecting me with college coaches, helping me understand the recruiting process, and giving me the chance to showcase my skills. On top of that, the Titans always stressed the importance of academics, helping me stay focused on both my studies and baseball.”
The highlights of Barbeau’s Titans career are a blend of personal connections and a big blast against a CPBL rival: “The friendships I made, the bonds with my teammates, the memories from road trips, and the support we gave each other are things that will stick with me forever. It’s those moments with my teammates that will always stand out. The bomb I hit as a 17U player against the Team Ontario Astros to tie up the game was also another pretty cool memory!”
Barbeau offered timely advice to younger Titans about achieving post-secondary goals as a student-athlete: “To the younger players, my biggest piece of advice is to stay dedicated and disciplined, both on and off the field. If you want to play at the next level, it’s not just about having talent—it’s about putting in the extra work every day. Academics are just as important, so don’t let your grades slip. Coaches at the college level look for student-athletes who are hard-working in the classroom, too.”
Congratulations to Ryan Barbeau on his recent commitment to the Tompkins Cortland Community College Panthers. The Titans Baseball Club looks forward to Ryan’s accomplishments during his final season with the Titans in Spring 2025 and with the Panthers in Fall 2025.
