Titans Launch Spring Training 2023 at Space Coast International Academy in Viera, Florida
The Titans Baseball Club will be flying two teams and six coaches to Viera, Florida for March Break 2023. The Titans Senior (Upperclass) and Junior (Underclass) teams will each compete in 8 Round-Robin games at the Space Coast Stadium Complex. In addition to their tournament games, both teams will have two on-field practices, a Pro-Style Workout will be provided by Space Coast Academy staff for all Titans position players, and all Titans pitchers will be filmed during their game appearances. It promises to be a busy week from March 10 to March 17 for 60 Titans players on central Florida’s Atlantic coast.
All games, practices, and workouts will take place at the Space Coast Stadium Complex—formerly the Spring Training home of the Florida Marlins (1994–2002), Montreal Expos (2003–2004), and Washington Nationals (2005–2016). A $50 million renovation in 2018 yielded 15 Astroturf fields—including 5 NCAA regulation fields-- which can handle 8” of rain. Rainouts are often the bane of Florida excursions, but the Space Coast Complex is ready to play even after a tropical downpour. Additionally, “Brevard County attracts tourists from all over the world. Its 72 miles of coastline and beaches, the Kennedy Space Center, proximity to major theme parks, and beautiful weather all help to create a perfect outdoor sports oasis on the east coast of central Florida.” The complex is a 60-minute drive from key Orlando destinations including Disney World.
It is these features and its proximity to so many tourist attractions that made the Space Coast International Academy Complex so attractive to Titans Director of Baseball Operations Lawrence Vera: “Florida is always an amazing experience for our players and their families. The biggest value of the trip is getting outside to work on our skill sets to prepare us for this upcoming CPBL season. But, on top of that, it is making memories that will last a lifetime and a mini-vacation rolled into one for our participating families.”
Coach Vera added that the Spring Training Excursion is a natural extension of the Titans’ Winter Program: “Our March Break Trip to Florida gets us an opportunity to see the skill sets we have been working on throughout the winter and tweak what needs to be done to prepare better for the CPBL season.” He expressed relief that this year’s trip to Florida is another sign that the sports world has returned to a semblance of pre-Pandemic normalcy: “March Break, Florida, and baseball are just a natural part of our sport. Knowing that we don't have to worry about the excursion’s cancellation due to COVID restrictions is an amazing feeling.” It is with this sense of relief that our Titans venture off to the Sunshine State in March 2023. While in Florida, the intrepid Titans contingent of 66 will be staying at the Fairfield Inn and Suites at the Viera Town Centre, 2400 Town Centre Avenue, Melbourne, FLA 32940. Fairfield Inn and Suites is part of the Marriott family of Hotels.
Safe travels, Titans!
