Titans Top CPBL Performances—Week 3
Several Titans had big performances in the box or on the mound for their respective teams in Week 3.
18U Titans Coach Denis Bailey—on the second leg of his annual five-team coaching Odyssey during which he serves on all the Titans coaching staffs—selected two performances that caught his eye versus the Ontario Royals: “Luc Gelinas and Adam Darlison led the way offensively for the 18U team this weekend! Both provided much-needed power and played great defensively.”
Gelinas—who has committed to the Saint Xavier University Cougars in Chicago, Illinois-- scored three runs, drew a walk, drove in two runs, and hit a home run against the Royals.
Darlison—who has committed to the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers in Lima, Ohio-- went 2 for 3, scored three runs, drew one walk, drove in 4 runs, and also hit a home run versus the Royals.
Both Gelinas and Darlison are heading to NAIA schools in September.
16U Head Coach Eddie McKiernan singled out Matteo Sersta’s performance versus the Oakville Royals. Sersta’s power is compelling and the slugger now finds himself on the radar of a number of US universities and colleges. The talented dual player and excellent student-athlete, who attends Bill Crothers Secondary School in Unionville, added to his scouting profile with big offensive efforts against the Royals on the weekend. Sersta went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. According to Coach McKiernan, “He saw the ball very well, and hit the ball hard every time.”
Also hitting the ball hard every time this weekend was 15U Titan Nate “Raking” Rowan who blasted a grand slam versus the Team Ontario Astros and had 5 RBI in one game for his team. This is Rowan’s second trip to the Titans Top Performances of the Week listings.
14U Titans’ Head Coach John Bethune expressed his disappointment and his patience simultaneously when offering an assessment about how his young charges lost their game on Saturday versus the Terriers: “We carried a perfect game into the 5th on Saturday with a 5-0 lead and got walked off. We went 1-3 on the weekend and should have been 3-1 versus the Terriers. However, we're getting there.”
Coach Bethune singled out three top performances from the youngest Titans squad:
Dominic Williams batted .500, collected 6 hits on the weekend including a double and a home run. The hard-hitting catcher’s weekend stats pack also included 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. It’s the second time in three weeks that Williams—a natural leader-- has earned his way on to the Titans Top Performances’ weekly listing.
Will Hilsenteger also batted .500 versus the Terriers including a double, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored.
Arrya Kumar was Saturday’s star on the mound for the 14U Titans, pitching 5.1 IP, yielding 2 runs, and striking out 6 Terriers. The talented starter carried a perfect game into the 5th inning.
